We live in an exciting age. Journalism - and indeed communications - is no longer just about content production for magazines, newspapers or television or reporting a message. The digital era is upon us and blogs, podcasts, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Ren-Ren and other social media are all new channels by which we can connect and share information with one another - regardless of where we are based in the world. Web 2.0 puts our audiences and not the journalists or communicators at the centre of the equation, and everything we have to say can now be challenged. How exciting!!!
A big part of my job today, in my corporate life in technology and communications, as a journalist, a creative and in my role as Associate Professor, is examining ways in which we can authentically report, share, listen, respond and meaningfully engage our audiences through digital channels.
Social media has forced our communications to shift from one way reporting to a dialogue in which the audience as co-contributors have power and influence over the message and it's delivery. It is an age where the "f" factor - our friends, foes, fans and followers are increasingly sophisticated and amplified - actively broadcasting, remixing, compiling, commenting sharing and recommending these experiences and information to the world.
I invite you to step inside my world as a communications consultant, academic, journalist and stylist and to share my passion for the written word and imagery where the role I play is no longer just as an editor or creative, but rather as a thinker where you, my audience, can connect, amplify and advocate your opinions and thoughts alongside me.
